Thanks to funding from the British Foreign School Society (BFSS), Omushana is now well on the way to opening its second Community Library close to Bwindi Forest. The new library will be at Ruhija village and we are working closely with the village's Community Development Association (the Ruhija Community Gorilla Tourism Development Association). The land and a building have been purchased and we are starting the renovation and refurbishment work later this month. Approximately 1000 books are already in Uganda waiting for the completion of these works. It's hoped the library will open in early 2018....

Amutuhaire Caroline has joined Omushana as our new Reading Promoter. Her job is to show children how much fun books can be by reading stories to children throughout Mukono and surrounding parishes, encouraging them to read story books too. Caroline will be entertaining children with stories at the Library and as an outreach worker in more than 10 schools. We are sure that her wonderful story telling will really encourage children to enjoy books and expand a reading culture amongst the young generation....

The School Nutrition project was launched in February 2017. Gill, Nelson, and Moses worked with Buhoma Community Primary School to come up with ideas to supplement the diets of the children. For two weeks the children enjoyed exciting additions to their meals such as fruits, millet, soya beans, fish, vegetables and eggs - which had been described by one child as an "impossible dream."...

The new school year began successfully in February. Our Class Support programme continues to thrive at four primary schools and one secondary school. During 2016, this programme subsidised fees for over 120 children and achieved many additional developments such as the building of two classrooms, a latrine, and a kitchen; the purchase of many books and several desks; and the awarding of prizes to many students....
