Amutuhaire Caroline has joined Omushana as our new Reading Promoter. Her job is to show children how much fun books can be by reading stories to children throughout Mukono and surrounding parishes, encouraging them to read story books too. Caroline will be entertaining children with stories at the Library and as an outreach worker in more than 10 schools. We are sure that her wonderful story telling will really encourage children to enjoy books and expand a reading culture amongst the young generation.
Caroline joined Omushana at the start of September 2017 as our new Reading Promoter, working alongside our Librarian Moses. Her job is to show children how much fun reading can be by reading stories to children throughout Mukono and surrounding parishes and encouraging them to read stories too.
Caroline impressed us so much at her interview especially when she read "The Busy Spider" to a group of children - getting them to act out each of the animals and joining in too - much to the delight of the children and the interview panel!
Caroline will now be spending her time entertaining children with stories at the Library and as an outreach worker in more than 10 schools. Most of these schools already benefit from our "mobile library" book boxes so they have new story books to enjoy each term and Caroline's visits will encourage the children to use these books even more.
We will also be starting a Saturday Story Club in the Buhoma Community Library. This club is open to all children to come on a Saturday morning for stories with Caroline.
We are sure that her wonderful story telling will really encourage children to enjoy books and expand a reading culture amongst the young generation.
