Class and School Support donations now reach over 200 pupils

Omushana Admin |

Omushana now has 20 regular supporters who donate between 5 and 20 pounds per month in our shared sponsorship programme. This is now directly benefiting over 200 pupils at 5 schools showing just how much can be done with a relatively small amount of money (currently the fund receives 170 pounds per month). The regular donations are used to subsidize fees by 1-2 pounds per term an amount which is much appreciated by parents and sufficient to allow them to be able to pay the remaining 2-10 pounds (depending on the school) themselves. The community chooses how the money should be used and as well as reducing the fees, they often vote to use some of the money for additional subsidies for the most needy children and for school improvements such as buying text books, constructing desks or providing other facilities such as kitchens or latrines.

Following a trip to Uganda in November 2018 she finally got to see the projects first hand and leapt at the opportunity to become a Trustee. We are really excited to have her on board.

Omushana's 2018 FUN WITH BOOKS ADVENT BOOK CHALLENGE - A HUGE SUCCESS

Thanks to some wonderful support we were able to purchase 54 FUN reading books to present to our 3 Reading Champions so that they have some lovely new books to read to children and inspire them during the year to come. The books will be taken out to Uganda in February - watch out for lots of smiles on faces coming soon! Our amazing Reading Champions are: Caroline at Buhoma Community Library, Speria at Ruhija Community Library and Ben at the Rubuguli Community Library (run by our partners at Footsteps). The average price for a book is £5 (to buy and transport). Please donate £5 through this website - just leave a message to let us know which book you are funding. We will put a dedication in the front stating that the book was donated by you (if you have a personal message please let us know) and we will send you pictures of the book and our fun with books project in action early next year!
