OMUSHANA NEWS

Vocation, vocation, vocation!

Omushana Admin |

Omushana continues to support vocational training opportunities in rural locations around Bwindi Forest. During August 8 sewing machines were donated to schools and colleges including Bwindi Community Vocational College, Kyeshero Secondary Vocational School and St Matthews Nursery and Primary School. Thanks to our partnership with Tools with a Mission, we were also able to supply carpentry and construction equipment to the local vocational schools.

Opportunities to receive vocational training is SO important for young Ugandans but vocational training does not receive the recognition it deserves, academic further education being regarded as “superior” despite the fact that students graduating with practical skills are far more likely to find jobs and to have successful businesses.  Omushana does all it can to promote vocational education as well as supporting vocational institutes.

To support vocational training for young Ugandans please donate!

Omushana's 2018 FUN WITH BOOKS ADVENT BOOK CHALLENGE - A HUGE SUCCESS

Thanks to some wonderful support we were able to purchase 54 FUN reading books to present to our 3 Reading Champions so that they have some lovely new books to read to children and inspire them during the year to come. The books will be taken out to Uganda in February - watch out for lots of smiles on faces coming soon! Our amazing Reading Champions are: Caroline at Buhoma Community Library, Speria at Ruhija Community Library and Ben at the Rubuguli Community Library (run by our partners at Footsteps). The average price for a book is £5 (to buy and transport). Please donate £5 through this website - just leave a message to let us know which book you are funding. We will put a dedication in the front stating that the book was donated by you (if you have a personal message please let us know) and we will send you pictures of the book and our fun with books project in action early next year!
