SPORT

Back to other Projects

Sport is hugely popular amongst the youth of Uganda and is a great way for young people to have fun while gaining skills.  Since 2012 Omushana has been supporting youth sports all around the Bwindi Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park areas.

In Buhoma, Omushana runs a Sports Kit Library which stores many team kits, balls and training equipment.  All schools and sports clubs in the area can borrow the equipment.  A volunteer Sports Co-ordinator, Emmy, assisted by Omushana, supervises the Library, takes care of the kits and equipment, provides coaching to many of the local schools and organises sports competitions in the community.

In the last decade, Omushana has sent more than 25 team kits and provided hundreds of balls, boots and other equipment.  In 2022 volunteers from the Birmingham Commonwealth Games donated over 100 items of uniform which has made up several more team kits and many prizes for sports competitions!

It costs approximately £50 per month to run Omushana's sports programme enjoyed by hundreds of children.

If more funds were available even more could be done!  Please support Sports Projects for the Ugandan youth by DONATING now.
